What God Must Do For Us - Salvation. What We Must Do For God - Service.

* What God must do for us - He must save : "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:16-17).
* What we must do for God - We must serve: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8).

Salvation and service
* Salvation leads to service.
Those who have been saved by the Lord are to serve Him.
* Service arises out of salvation.
When we serve the Lord, we must never forget that we have been saved by Him.

Jesus Is Our Saviour. He Is Also Our Lord.

Luke 19:1-48
Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem (9:51; 13:22; 17:11), the place where He would be crucified for the world’s salvation. ‘Passing through’ Jericho, He brought ‘salvation’ to Zacchaeus (1, 9). ‘Near to Jerusalem’, He spoke about service (11-27). Jesus is our Saviour - He came ‘to save us’(10). He is also our Lord - He wants to ‘reign over’ us (27). ‘Salvation has come to us (9). As ‘good servants’, let us be ‘faithful’ to our Lord (17). Jesus was ‘going up to Jerusalem’(28). The Cross was the high point, the place of His triumph (Colossians 2:15). Seeing ‘the city’, Jesus ‘wept over it’(41). He taught the Word of God in the House of God. Some were ‘eager to hear Him’. Others were ‘seeking to destroy Him’(47-48). What about you? Does Jesus weep over you? He wants to rejoice over you (15:7,10).

Your Community Needs Your Help

With Thanksgiving soon here there will be many people struggling not only to make ends meet, but to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their family. Even greater, there are many people and families that are homeless.

It doesn't matter where you live, what state, what city or what community. There are people around you hurting. There are also a lot of churches, food shelters and organizations that distribute food.

Maybe you could gather some friends together, plan a food drive and donate that food to a local church, food shelter or ministry that feeds the poor.

You see, we all can make a difference.

Jesus Speaks About Temptation, Forgiveness, Faith And Service.

Luke 17:1-37
In verses 1-10, Jesus speaks about temptation, forgiveness, faith and service. (a) Temptation- ‘watch yourselves’, always remembering that we can only win victory through the strength of the Lord (3; 1 Corinthians 10:13). (b) Forgiveness- This is practical teaching. We not only receive forgiveness for ourselves. We are to forgive others (3-4; 1 John 1:9; Ephesians 4:32). (c) Faith- There will never come a time when we no longer need to pray, ‘Increase our faith’. What great things can be achieved for God, when our faith in Him is strong (5-6; 1 John 5:4-5, 14-15). (d) Service- We are always ‘unworthy servants’. We never outgrow our need of ‘God’s mercy’(10; Romans 12:1; 2 Corinthians 4:1). We need ‘the attitude of gratitude’(17-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:18). Jesus is coming again (24). Be ready for Him!

If We Want To Serve God, We Must Learn To Worship Him.

1 Peter 3:1-4:6
The world is preoccupied with outward appearances. As Christians, we should be more concerned with our inward attitude. ‘In your hearts reverence Christ as Lord’. Pray for His ‘attitude’- ‘a tender heart and a humble mind’(8,15; 4:1). We believe the Gospel - ‘Christ died for our sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God’. Let’s share the Gospel - ‘Be always ready to give...a reason for the hope that is in you’. How are we to share the Gospel? - ‘with gentleness and respect’(18,15). We must get the attitude right - ‘so that nothing will hinder our prayers’(7). We need more than the ‘right’ prayers - words that sound good. We need the right attitude. The blessing will not come because our words sound good. It will only come when our attitude is right.

1 Peter 4:7-5:14
In all the service we offer to God, there is to be the offering of worship: ‘To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever’(4:11; 5:11). We will not learn to serve God unless we are learning to worship Him. There is a ‘form of religion’ which ‘denies the power’ of God - ‘These people honour Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me’(2 Timothy 3:5; Matthew 15:8). They go through the motions - but their hearts are not in it! We must pray that God will deliver us from this kind of thing: ‘O for a heart to praise my God! A heart from sin set free; A heart that always feels Thy blood, so freely shed for me’(Church Hymnary, 85). ‘Religion’ is about respectability. Salvation is about renewal: ‘Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me’(Psalm 51:10).

Missionaries Of The Kingdom

Each and everyday as believers, as members of the body of Christ, we are on mission. Daily there are situations placed before us where we can share and minister the love of God. Sometimes about the Redeeming Passion Of Christ and the free gift of salvation. Other times we get the chance to share the depths of God's Word.

However there are also simple everyday ways that we as an extension of God's Kingdom here on earth can simply let the love of Christ flow through us.

In the simplicity of encouraging someone, through assisting someone in need, through buying someone a lunch, seeking to be someone's friend, inviting them to our homes for dinner, inviting them to church, helping a broken down motorists on the freeway, offering to help a senior citizen and the list is endless. Maybe that elderly woman that is struggling in her garden, or that elderly man that is trying to mow his lawn but lacks the youth and the physical strength.

Yes, daily we have situation and opportunities placed right before us. Make use of them, see those opportunities and act upon them all to the Glory of God.
